GF Snacks

There are tons of GF snacks that we adore. Just because you can't eat gluten doesn't mean your favorite types of snacks have to be taken away. Here are some of our favorites that we think you will enjoy:

  • Fruits and vegetables (in their natural form, each one is gluten-free)

  • Cheese sticks

  • Go-Gurts

  • Milk (make it chocolate with Hershey's Syrup Genuine Chocolate Flavor)

  • Gratify Crackers (they come in different flavors like Plain and Cinnamon)

  • Snyder's Gluten-Free Pretzels

  • Glutino products

  • Laughing Cow cheeses

  • Many, but not all, Chex cereals

  • Lucky Charms

  • Many fruit snacks

  • Cheerios

  • Kinni-Too Sandwich Cookies

Common Things You Must Check

While tons of things are GF, there are some items that contain gluten. These may not seem like a problem, but often when you forget to check, you get sick! So here are some items that you should always check before using!

  • Lip balms, lip glosses, Chapstick

  • Envelopes (the part you lick)

  • Soy sauce

  • Barbecue chips

  • Shampoos or hairsprays

  • Facial products

  • Oats (cross-contamination)

  • Gum

  • Coffee/hot chocolate

  • Salad dressing/condiments

  • Canned soups or products

  • Communion wafers

  • Medications

  • Pickles

  • Gravy

  • Rice Krispies Treats

  • Items labeled "wheat-free" (wheat is not the only thing in gluten!)

Ice Cream!

Ice cream is something everyone enjoys and is actually fairly simple to handle with gluten issues, as there is no flour involved! The biggest thing is to check labels and use common sense. For example, Brownie Batter ice cream will most likely contain gluten. To help, here are some brands that are really good at labeling GF flavors:

Wegmans

Breyer's

Hershey's

Perry's

While homemade sundaes are delicious (you can use the above brands and choose GF toppings like M and Ms and Hershey's chocolate sauce), you may want to go out to ice cream once you are GF. In that case, you may want to call ahead, or just be prepared to ask questions. Always ask questions along these lines:

Would you mind washing the scooper before hand?

Do you know about cross-contamination? Do you use shared equipment?

What flavors are gluten free?

Is this ice cream a certain brand?

Around here, we like certain ice cream shops. These include Sweet Frog and Sno Top. However, if there are places you trust, these are perfectly fine too!
